Frequently Asked Questions

  • We offer a comprehensive, tiered approach to aging in place through three distinct services:

    • Elder Care Consulting: Professional care management, geriatric assessments, and patient advocacy led by nursing and social work professionals.

    • Elder Care Associates: Nonmedical companion and homemaker services to assist with daily living. (HCA #0000743)

    • Senior Moments: A structured, community-based adult day center located in Tolland.

  • Every family’s situation is unique. We highly recommend starting with a professional Geriatric Assessment through Elder Care Consulting. Our experts will evaluate your loved one's physical, cognitive, and social needs to develop a customized care plan that may include in-home care, our adult day program, or a combination of both.

  • Our daily hands-on care is nonmedical. Elder Care Associates provides "unskilled" support, such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, and companionship. However, Elder Care Consulting is driven by clinical professionals who provide medical advocacy, care coordination, and nursing consultations.

  • A Care Consultant acts as a dedicated patient advocate and a guide for your family. They accompany clients to medical appointments to act as an extra set of eyes and ears, navigate complex diagnoses like dementia, perform med-fills and manage communication—which is especially helpful for out-of-town family members.

  • Senior Moments is designed to look and feel like a local club rather than a facility. We focus on community and connection, offering a fun-filled, structured day with engaging social and recreational activities. To keep our members energized, we also provide a light breakfast, a nutritious lunch, and a daily snack.

  • We offer a variety of convenient services designed to make life easier for both our members and their families. This includes hands-on personal care assistance, such as help with showers. Additionally, we provide coordinated transportation, specialized footcare, and even have an on-site salon and hairdresser so our members can look and feel their best.

  • Senior Moments is located on the Vernon/Tolland line at 31 Kingsbury Ave, Tolland, CT. We are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. We offer flexible scheduling to fit your family's routine, with both full-day and half-day options available (with a minimum of four hours per visit).

  • Elder Care Associates offers flexible options ranging from hourly visits to 24/7 live-in companion-homemaker services. To ensure consistent, meaningful support for your loved one, our hourly care requires a minimum of 4 hours per visit. Whether your family member is recovering from a hospital stay or needs ongoing daily assistance, we can scale our services from that 4-hour base up to comprehensive, round-the-clock care.

  • Yes, our well-trained companions can assist with errands and transportation to keep your loved one active and ensure they safely make their appointments. For safety and liability purposes, our caregivers will always provide transportation using their own personal, insured vehicles rather than driving the client’s car.

  • Safety, trust, and compassion are our highest priorities. We thoroughly screen every potential team member to ensure they meet our strict standards for high-quality care. Our rigorous vetting process includes:

    • Comprehensive Background Checks: Including driving records, the national sex offender registry, and full I-9 and E-verification to verify eligibility to work in the United States. All new hires are also reported to the State of Connecticut.

    • Verified Documentation: All caregivers must provide a valid driver’s license, valid auto insurance, and state-issued identification.

    • Full Liability Protection: Every employee is fully insured, bonded, and covered under our non-owned auto policy for your peace of mind.

Once hired, our caregivers undergo a thorough orientation and ongoing oversight to ensure they consistently deliver the compassionate, steadfast support your family deserves.

  • Payment options vary slightly depending on the branch of care you are receiving:

    • Elder Care Consulting & Elder Care Associates: These services are primarily private pay, and we also gladly accept and work with Long-Term Care (LTC) insurance policies.

    • Senior Moments: In addition to private pay and LTC insurance, our adult day program works directly with the State of Connecticut and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for reimbursement.
